Pollinator pathways and wildlife rest stops

Plant native wildflowers and build bug hotels and bird boxes to give displaced wildlife food and a safe place to rest.
Matériel
Native wildflower seeds, window boxes or planters, potting soil, twigs, pine cones, string, untreated wood, a neighbourhood map.
Déroulement
Pupils plant native wildflowers in window boxes, schoolyards and along pavements. Together they make a connected “highway” of food and resting spots for bees, butterflies and other insects that are losing their habitats.
Walk around the neighbourhood and mark on a map where flowers already grow and where the gaps are.
Choose native plants that flower at different times of the year.
Sow and plant, then build bug hotels from bundled twigs and pine cones, and wooden bird or bat boxes.
Come back every two weeks to count the visitors and keep a record.
