Community seed library

Collect seeds from local plants that cope well with heat and drought, and share them with neighbours in decorated envelopes.
Matériel
Paper bags for collecting, newspaper, small envelopes, pens and pencils, a box with dividers.
Déroulement
Children collect seeds from plants in their area that easily survive hot weather or droughts. They package them in decorated envelopes and share them with neighbours, so that everyone has access to tough, climate-ready plants.
On a walk at the end of summer, spot the plants that stayed healthy without watering. Ask gardeners which ones they recommend.
Collect ripe seeds, dry them for a week on newspaper, and sort them.
Make the envelopes: name of the plant, where and when it was collected, how to sow it, a drawing.
Set up the library in a box at school, at the town library or at a local shop: take an envelope, bring one back next year.
